Welcome to my Blog!

Updated: Oct 4, 2024

I have been a single mum for 7 years now. A single mum to three neuro-spicy children. There is no part time dad collecting at weekends, he chose to go no contact and move on with his life (nice!) and so its just me and the children. A very tough ask at times!

My eldest child, aged 17, has been diagnosed with Autism and ARFID (Avoidant and Restrictive Eating Disorder). My middle child, aged 12, has been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Severe Anxiety, Trichotillomania (hair pulling) and PMDD. My youngest has been diagnosed with ARFID (the same eating disorder as my eldest) and is on the waiting list for diagnosis for Autism/PDA. All three have sensory impairments which effects daily life and meltdowns!

This space is for readers to feel heard and valued along their own journey to parenting neuro-spicy children. I share my own experiences, tips and advice for parents own mental health (something hard to come by!) also, parenting hacks among conditions such as ADHD, AUTISM, ARFID, ANXIETY and SENSORY PROCESSING DISORDERS.

Welcome, please do message and reach out, anytime. Parents of neuro-spicy children should never feel alone, we are stronger together.

My own 'why' for building this site.

In short, because the support services available are unsuitable and outdated!

I sat on the landing in my home at 11pm most nights, getting my children to sleep. Alone, unhappy, unheard and struggling with managing neuro-spicy behaviours. With no one to turn to (that understood) and being unable to access self help suggestions that my 3am Google searches found (start a hobby, prioritise sleep, socialise, focus on self care), I decided to carve out my own way. I decided to find a way to find my smile again amongst the needs of my neuro-spicy children and the relentless tides of exhaustion, then share with others.

With professional experience and education in child development, psychology, autism and family support interventions it was not only clear that there is little support for families like mine but also that the little support available was somewhat...shocking! Therefore, I decided to create my own Breaking Barriers; Building Belief! Finally, the right support without the parental stigma or judgement!

So what next? Sign up to this website (it's free!) you will then be the first to know when new services are offered and the first to be offered spaces on all workshops! Check out the FREE podcasts and videos and, of course, sign up to the Breaking Barriers; Building Belief parent support workshop. It is not a parenting workshop because you are already an awesome parent but it is support, without judgement, with someone who genuinely understands the moment to moment frustrations of being a parent/carer of a child with ADHD/AUTISM/PDA.
