Service Description

Art Therapy is a great way to give your child an outlet for mental health support. It is a safe space to create, draw, paint and communicate visually, exploring feelings and emotions. Benefits of art therapy for children can include: Improved emotional regulation. Increased sense of self belief and confidence. Decreased anxiety. Decreased stress. Enables children the ability to express themselves without the need to be verbal. This session is with Katie and is 1:1 with you and your child only. This session is great for children who are suffering EBSA and gives them a space to communicate about any worries or anxieties about school or peers. What you will need: Paper, paints, pens, pencils or whatever art medium your child enjoys using most. This session is a 45 minute session with different art activities set by Katie, personalised to meet your child's needs. These sessions are great to book weekly or every second week. Ideal for ages 10 years old plus. Please note that you will be required to also attend and supervise this online session - perhaps a great way to join in and share in the activity with your child, encouraging open communication and team work. How do the zoom Art Therapy sessions work? 1: Book your child's session. 2. Katie will in touch (via email), prior to the session, to gain some information about your child so that the art session can be personalised. You will also receive a social story to share with your child about the upcoming session. 3. Each session will be led, with an activity in mind, either of your children's choosing or mine (they can choose). 4. These sessions are completely child led - ideal for PDA children. They move with the pace of your child and are focused on the 'process' rather than the 'outcome' (of work produced). Whatever art your child will be making, Katie will be joining in, making art too! 5. We can use play doh, paints, pens, pencils, sand, shapes, collage, glue and tissue paper - anything! Your child can choose whichever art medium suits them. 6. The sessions are 45 minutes in length and always start with a mental health positive check in, of course using art. This helps children check in with how they are feeling and they can express this via art rather than communication (if they wish). Art therapy can take many different forms, should you have a child who is less interested in Art and more interested in story writing we can create characters and write too!
